My Pick for Best Ice Cream

It’s Stewart’s. It’s Stewart’s Ice Cream. It’s ice cream from a regional gas station chain in upstate New York. I found out that they’re also in New Hampshire and Vermont– good for them. Their ice cream sneaks up on you. Their gold and silver-tinted half-gallon cartons of Mint Cookie Crumble, Black Sweet Cherry, or Death by Chocolate are thoroughly entrancing. Being at my parents’ house has its perks and its niceties, and one of the main ones is that they are very close to a Stewart’s Shops. There’s a tremendous sense of regional pride that I feel whenever I’m attacking their award-winning ice cream. There’s a sense of urgency in my words whenever I give someone a recommendation to go there; it’s something that is the opposite of gatekeeping. “Do not wait any longer!” I want to say. “Trying this ice cream will change your life, and it will also make the world a better place!” While writing this, I admit that I am drunk on ice cream.

Stewart’s flavors of the week include three flavors of ice cream that are discounted for that week. “Don’t mind if I do,” says my inner mom or dad because I do buy one of the flavors of the week each time. It makes me feel like an economical consumer. Also, not to mention that it is actually very good value for money even at full price. This week, the flavors of the week include Mint Cookie Crumble, Black Sweet Cherry, and Chocolate Chip. Very fitting and timely! They weren’t playing around for the Thanksgiving holiday! I picked the Mint Cookie Crumble– perfect fit for my blog. The mint is refreshing and not grating. They put a liberal “wave” of chocolate cookie fudge throughout, so you get it in every bite. There is a smooth and creamy consistency without it giving off a factory-made homogenous feel. It tastes like real ice cream made with real ingredients. It’s not that generic “frozen dessert” from the supermarket, where the mint tastes like toothpaste and the chocolate tastes plasticky or sandy. The mint is balanced; it’s not too sweet, and it doesn’t irritate the tongue. The chocolate is present with authority; it’s not those tiny flakes or shards; it adds a level of pleasant texture and crunch, and it melts in your mouth. I finished it within a day. The glorious thing about Thanksgiving is that I get to try the other two flavors of the week without feeling weird. It’s the week for eating with gratitude and with family! I love America!
